Copper, discovered in prehistoric times, was amongst the first metal utilized for crafting tools and weapons. The earliest known instances were crafted in Chaldea, a region in southeastern Mesopotamia, around 4000 B.C. As bronze and iron became more popular for tool and weapon production, copper transitioned to being employed for kitchenware and ornaments. Over time, it has diversified its usage in industry and daily life, even inspiring new art forms. Copper’s malleability has made it a staple material since ancient times. Throughout Anatolia, particularly in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, skilled artisans have a rich history of crafting various copper items for both practical use and decorative purposes.
